The Education Welfare Service has a statutory duty to investigate where it appears that a young person is not attending school regularly. On completion of investigation, the following legal interventions will be considered if it is deemed an offence has been committed:
- Education Supervision Order
- Penalty Notice
- Summons Section 444(1) / 444(1a) Education Act 1996
- School Attendance Order
