Governance is about how local government bodies ensure that they are doing the right things, in the right way, for the right people, in a timely, inclusive, open, honest and accountable manner.
It comprises the systems and processes, cultures and values, by which local government bodies are directed and controlled and through which they account to, engage with and, where appropriate, provide leadership to their communities.
Bromley Council conducts an annual review of its governance arrangements, including the system of internal control.
The purpose of the review is to provide assurance from a number of sources including Members, Chief Officers, internal and external audit, other review agencies and inspectorates that corporate governance arrangements are adequate and operating effectively; or where gaps are revealed, action is planned that will ensure effective governance in future.
The outcome of the review is detailed in the Annual Governance Statement which is published with the Annual Report and Statement of Accounts.
