Homes for Ukraine hosts
Since the start of the war in Ukraine, hundreds of Ukrainian guests have been welcomed into the borough. Our residents have offered much needed accommodation through the government’s Homes for Ukraine scheme, providing a safe haven and somewhere to temporarily at least, call home. There are opportunities to help with this work by offering your home to Ukrainian guests already living in borough who now need a new sponsoring host. Can you help?
As a result of the kindness and hospitality shown by so many of our residents, many of our Ukrainian guests are now settled into their new lives in the borough, many with jobs and children settled in schools. As a result, they would very much like to stay in the area for as long as possible until they can return to their homes in Ukraine. Following the initial 6 -12 months, some of our guests now need to find new homes, with their current placements ending and we are now looking for new hosts to re-match guests to as the war sadly is currently continuing.
Becoming a Host
If you have ever thought about hosting Ukrainian guest/s but are not quite sure what is involved or whether it is right for you, please contact us by emailing ukrainesupport@bromley.gov.uk with your name, address and phone number. One of our friendly Response Officers will give you a call to provide more information and answer any questions you may have, including details about the monthly thank you payment you will receive.
Alternatively, if you know this is something you are definitely interested in doing, you can register your interest. Once we receive your details, we will be in touch to arrange a home visit. There is still no pressure to host guests at this stage but it’s a great opportunity for us to meet you and for you to find out more about how the scheme works to enable you to make a decision.
Supporting sponsors and guests to help ensure the right match
When re-matching our guests, we are very keen to ensure the guests and sponsors are the right fit and following an initial introduction, there is no obligation on either side to agree to the placement. Our skilled staff are very good at ensuring we make the right matches and we pride ourselves on doing this successfully. Our team remain available throughout the duration of the placement to provide advice, information and support to both sponsors and guests.
Thank You Payments
By sponsoring Ukrainians who are already here in Bromley you are playing an important role in providing temporary homes to support people who simply wish to stay in the borough. In recognition and gratitude for sponsoring Ukrainian guests, you will receive a thank you payment of £350 a month increasing to £500 a month when your guests have been in the UK for one year.
