Shakespeare in Love - open-air production, Tuesday 16 to Saturday 20 July 2024.

Bromley Community Arts Theatre return to The Amphitheatre in July 2024 with another fabulous evening of family entertainment.

The hilarious and moving Shakespeare in Love (made famous on the big screen with Gwyneth Paltrow, Joseph Fiennes and Judi Dench) comes to Bromley in BCAT's inimitable style. Penniless and indebted to two demanding producers, struggling young playwright William Shakespeare is tormented by writer's block, until he meets the beautiful Viola de Lesseps, daughter of wealthy merchant, whose fiery passion for poetry and drama leaves her secretly longing to be an actor. Viola quickly becomes the playwright's muse, while she disguises herself as man to become player. Both are despondent when they learn that Viola's mother has promised her to the stuffy Lord Wessex in order to gain title for their family. Under the veil of secrecy, Will and Viola's love affair becomes the basis of the very play he is writing - Romeo and Juliet. With opening night and the wedding day fast approaching, the plots race toward parallel conclusion. Will it all work out in the end or are the two star-crossed lovers destined for tragedy? This wonderful production is packed full of laughter, genuine emotion and romance. Larger than life characters, inventive setting and all in the heart of Bromley!

Anyone who saw BCAT's superb productions of Midsummer Night's Dream and Great Expectations are going to adore this wonderful event. Cash only bar will be available for everyone to purchase drinks, but you are welcome to bring your own picnic and refreshments.

Tickets are just £10 for adults and only £5 for children aged 16 or under.
