Do farmers and growers have to comply with food hygiene regulations?
Farmers and growers must follow basic hygiene procedures to ensure hazards such as contamination arising from soil, water, fertilisers, pesticides, the handling of waste, are prevented. Farmers are required to register their food businesses, for example; any livestock farms, fish farms, arable farms, PYO (pick your own), market gardens or bee keepers producing food for human consumption.
You also need to ensure that your food business is registered at least 28 days before you begin to trade.
