As part of the council’s celebrations of Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee the council is delivering a £30,000 grant programme to support businesses and community groups in decorating a number of the borough’s high streets and shopping parades for the jubilee celebrations.
Applications for this grant have now closed after many welcome applications were received from local business groups and residents’ associations. Organisations were invited to apply for funding of up to £3,000 to decorate their local high street or shopping parade.
How will applications be assessed?
Should the number of applications received exceed the funds available, applications will be assessed and prioritised based on the following criteria:
a. match funding – details should be included with the proposal
b. use of local contractors to create/install the decorations
c. the most creative and uplifting approach to decoration
d. evidence of sustainability
e. details of community events taking place on the named high street or shopping parade over the Platinum Jubilee weekend and details of how the proposed decorations will enhance this.
What happens next
You will receive email confirmation that your application has been received and another email to confirm if you have been successful in March 2022. Further information may also be requested in due course.
Grant conditions
Please do not spend any money towards street decoration before finding out the outcome of your application.
This is a grant and not a loan, so the council does not expect to be repaid unless you do not deliver the outcome for which the grant has been allocated.
If you are successful you will be expected to abide by specified conditions, such as retaining receipts for all payments made for audit purposes and providing photographic evidence of the street decorations, both for audit purposes and so we may share in your achievement and celebrate alongside you.
Key dates
Application proposals can be submitted between Wednesday 2 February and Wednesday 23 February 2022.
All proposals must be submitted by midnight on Wednesday 23 February 2022 at the very latest.
Successful applicants will receive confirmation of the outcome in March 2022.
Successful applicants will be permitted to install the decorations for a maximum period of three weeks between the dates of 23 May and 12 June 2022.
