The financial assessment
If a social worker arranges for you to get non-residential social care services, we must carry out a financial assessment to work out how much you can afford to pay.
Your care package information will be passed to the financial assessment team so that they can conduct a financial assessment. There are various ways that a financial assessment can be completed:
- By completing our financial assessment form. You will need to upload any supporting evidence, which can be done within the online form; or
- Someone will contact you to offer to send a financial assessment form in the post. You or your representative can complete and return the form with the supporting evidence; or
- We can arrange for an officer to visit you and complete the financial assessment form along. During the visit they will verify your income, outgoings and capital. You may have a member of your family or a friend present if you wish. Any information you give us will be treated in the strictest confidence. Please ask the visiting officer any questions you may have as they are there to help. All our staff have been police checked and carry identification with them, and you should check their ID before allowing them into your home. Sometimes more than one visiting officer will attend.
As part of the financial assessment process, the financial assessment officer will check to see if you could claim additional state benefits. If they identify a benefit you could claim, they will provide you with advice on the benefit and how to claim.
If you do not wish to disclose your financial information, we will ask you to sign a declaration agreeing to pay the full cost of your care.
Savings over £23,250
If you have savings and investments of over £23,250 we will not need to carry out a financial assessment as you will be assessed to pay the full cost of your care. Should your savings and investments fall below £23,250 you may ask for a financial assessment by contacting the financial assessment team.
You will also be charged an arrangement fee to cover the cost incurred by the council in arranging your care. If you would like to arrange your own care please contact the Adult Social Care either via your allocated social worker, or using the details at the bottom of this page to advise them that you wish to cancel your services and you will make your own arrangements for care.
