A safety problem has been identified with regard to the above
products. An enquiry from Birmingham Trading Standards concerning
one of the above pies, which allegedly caught fire whilst being
microwaved according to instructions, has led Iceland to conduct an
internal search of its customer service records. This has revealed
that two similar incidents have been reported. At present there
appears to be no connection in terms of batch codes, geographical
areas, supplier, etc.
As a result, Iceland has withdrawn both products from sale whilst an
investigation is carried out. Preliminary indications are that there
may be problems with the interior packaging which remains around the
product whilst cooked.
In total, Iceland retails approximately 175,000 units per week and
there have been no previous problems.
Flintshire Trading Standards Service will be grateful if any further
occurrences are notified via that Authority, with as full details
as possible, in order that the cause of any problem can be speedily
