An application made by Biggin Hill Airport to alter the terms of its lease with Bromley Council was rejected by the Executive on Wednesday.
The airport had submitted a request to alter a clause within the lease that would permit the airport to allow flights accepting individual fare paying passengers.
Speaking about the decision, Councillor Graham Arthur, Portfolio Holder for Resources, Commissioning and Contract Management said, “It is correct that, as landlord, the council considered the application from Biggin Hill Airport, but given the important principles this relates to, the request was refused. I would like to thank the many residents, and their ward councillors, who submitted comments to inform the decision-making process. The council will continue to balance the twin aims of encouraging our business community to flourish, whilst safeguarding our environment and protecting our residents’ best interests.”
When making the application, Biggin Hill Airport suggested that if the application was unsuccessful they would take their claim to a tribunal. In the event this happens, Bromley Council will contest the claim.
