Friends of Parks groups and local stakeholders, including Resident Associations are invited to apply for funding to improve their local park, with monies from the Platinum Jubilee Parks fund.
Friends of Parks groups and local stakeholders, including Resident Associations and local councillors, are being invited to apply for funding to improve their local park, with monies from the Platinum Jubilee Parks fund.
The news follows confirmation of the Council’s £1 million of additional funding for parks with £40,000 for each ward. A range of groups, including councillors, are able to apply for up to £20,000 of funding for their proposal and a variety of applications are expected over the lifetime of the fund, including proposed improvements to play areas or to enhance the natural beauty of gardens or biodiversity, including potential restoration work as well. In order for projects to receive money, support from a local friends group (if one exists) shall be crucial.
Councillor Aisha Cuthbert, Executive Councillor for Sustainability, Green Services and Open Spaces said, “So many of us have a passion for our precious greenspaces, which we all care about. We have carefully developed the Platinum Jubilee Parks fund to make sure as many parks benefit as possible and I would encourage you to apply.”
Councillor Cuthbert continued, “Our Platinum Jubilee Parks fund is part of the Council’s plan to invest in our parks, including with the much-needed support of local people. Thank you to all the Friends of Parks groups for all the work you do, which is appreciated by so many. It is by working together that we make a huge difference and this is what the Platinum Jubilee Fund is all about.”
In addition to accelerating achievements within the Council’s Open Space Strategy, the fund is also be available for local stakeholder groups to submit applications for community led projects to be allocated a sum of money from the scheme. In addition to the maximum contribution of £20,000 from the fund, projects can also source funding from other sources, including grants or donations.
Potential applicants are advised to look at the guidance advice on the Council’s website before also applying by visiting www.bromley.gov.uk/jubileeparksfund.
The news about the £1million Platinum Jubilee Fund follows the successful opening of the new bespoke £450k all-wheeled bike track at Hoblingwell Wood Recreation Ground last month. The news also follows the successful completion of £150k repair and conservation work to the remains of the medieval moated manor house at Scadbury Park.
There are over 150 parks and greenspaces across the Borough, of varying shapes and sizes, which are all eligible for these funding monies, with the support of local people, whilst funds last.
