Residents, visitors and other interested parties are being encouraged to respond to a survey about proposals to improve the playground in Cudham, at the Cudham Recreation Ground.
The proposal to improve the playground is being championed by the recently formed Friends of Cudham Rec Play Area, a group of local residents and parents that have come together to improve this much valued playground. The friends group is working in partnership with Bromley Council and its parks management contractor, idverde.
The refurbishment of the playground is expected to cost approximately £90,000, of which £20,000 from the council's Platinum Jubilee Parks Fund has been secured towards the project. The Friends have launched a community fundraising campaign and further grant applications will also be undertaken once consultation is complete.
Councillor Aisha Cuthbert, Executive Councillor for Environment said “We are proud within Bromley to have such a wide variety of parks and open spaces, including Cudham Recreation Ground. There is a real chance through these proposals to improve this play area and the support shown by the friends group and local residents is impressive, for whom I thank, for their work so far. I would really encourage users of the recreation ground to respond with their views – so we can be sure that we create an area that will flourish for generations to come”
Mark Comley, Chairman of The Friends of Cudham Rec Play Area said, “We already have a significant local support for this and we are pleased to share our campaign to improve the children’s play area for the families in our community and further afield. Our aim is to provide a safe and fun environment for children of all ages to play, explore and grow, and we believe it will become a hub of community activity and enjoyment for years to come. As well as responding to our survey, which will directly shape proposals, we welcome any offers of support – please do get in touch!”
The information collected from the consultation survey will shape design plans going forwards, with the aim of applying for grant funding to deliver the proposals once they are agreed. The consultation will also help to identify how the playground is currently used and what improvements to the playground will benefit residents and visitors.
The Friends of Cudham Rec Play Area aim to initially upgrade and refurbish the current play area, including introducing new seating to create a new picnic area. A second phase, it is hoped, would then also see the playground expanded to play for older children.
Anyone interested in having their say can complete the partnership survey which is available for five weeks, by the closing date of 17 April 2023.
