Residents and motorists who may still be looking for support with using the RingGo parking app and its many ways to pay, with or without a smartphone, are being invited to new drop-in sessions at Orpington and Beckenham in July.

These latest drop-in support sessions follow a series of similar events that the Council has held across the Borough in its move to solely use phone technology to pay for parking. Most recently, the Civic Centre hosted two such events, which provided helpful advice for residents, giving them the confidence to pay for their parking. The face-to-face drop-in sessions complement the information published on the council’s RingGo payment support webpage, as well as free information leaflets in the Civic Centre and the borough’s libraries.

The next drop-in support sessions are being held at:

Councillor Nicholas Bennett, Executive Councillor for Transport, Highways and Road Safety, said: “Whilst the majority of residents and motorists already used their phones to pay for parking before the RingGo changes, we have worked hard to try and make sure everyone is aware of what was going on. The changes have now been successfully implemented for a number of months, but we are still here to offer bespoke advice to residents that need it, which is why we have continued with the drop-in sessions. Please come along to our sessions so you can learn even more about our RingGo parking app.”

Residents have previously been sent information about RingGo, enclosed with their council tax statement. These drop-in sessions are designed to support residents who may have personal enquiries or need a practical demonstration on how to download or use the RingGo app, with support also available to those who do not have smart phones.

The move to the RingGo service means that motorists no longer need to find coins, have the correct change, worry about machine faults, incorrectly displayed tickets or returning to their car to extend their stay. Motorists are being encouraged to download the RingGo app from their provider’s store. A smart phone is however not required, customers can also book and pay for a session by calling RingGo directly on 020 3046 0010.

The removal of the borough’s current pay and display machines is now complete, which has reduced on-street clutter and helped to free pavements for pedestrian use. The move to the RingGo payment method followed confirmation that the 3G technology powering the machines was bring turned off, combined with the near £1million cost of installing new machines, given that the majority of motorists were already using the RingGo system.
