The valued contributions of dedicated volunteers from over the past year have been recognised at a council reception hosted by the Mayor of Bromley.

Over 100 volunteers of all ages were applauded at the reception held at the Civic Centre. Contributions from many organisations were recognised for their service to local communities, including residents’ associations, Bromley’s Friends groups and uniformed organisations like the Orpington Sea Cadets.

The youngest contributor was Mia Jackson, aged 9, who alongside her mum Bonnie has raised over £50,000 in the last year as part of the Annabelle’s Challenge Charity following Mia being diagnosed with Vascular EDS in 2021. Fundraising efforts were also recognised from other charities and causes, such as PTSD999 and the MumMum Foundation.

Councillor Mike Botting, the Mayor of Bromley, said: “It is an enormous pleasure to honour these dedicated volunteers who do outstanding work to support residents and make our borough that bit brighter. There is such a range of volunteers being recognised this year, including those who support our armed forces community and many who bring residents together in various ways, creating networks and support that all helps to address loneliness wherever it is found. From the recent fundraising efforts of young Mia to those who have been active in the community for many years, there is no shortage of examples of kind deeds and contributions that continue to make me proud of Bromley.”
