The Friends of Cator Park and Alexandra Recreation Ground will soon be hosting their annual family dog show, provided with funding from the Platinum Jubilee Parks Fund.

Friends of Cator Park and Alexandra Recreation Ground are once again hosting their Paws in the Park family Dog Show on Saturday 21 October, following the installation of a new dog agility course. Funded by the council’s Platinum Jubilee Parks Fund, the equipment will be used by dog walkers and for dog agility sessions to provide their dogs with fun stimulus, and give them the opportunity to climb and jump, increasing the bond between owner and pet.

The council’s contractors idverde has now installed a catwalk bridge, a crawl through tunnel, and a jump through wall. Along with existing facilities, this forms part of the new ‘Bark Park’, for which residents and visitors will have access all year round.

The friends group have also used their Platinum Jubilee Parks Funding in Alexandra Recreation Ground, where improvements have been made to a disused paddling pool area located in the park. The old pool surface has been repainted with visually attractive decorations that includes an adventure trail, frog prints, sunflower hopscotch, maths caterpillar, and a snail a-z to create a children’s play trail. The space has also been redesigned to include the installation of an outdoor table tennis table.

Councillor Aisha Cuthbert, Executive Councillor for Environment says “The Platinum Jubilee Parks Fund has been a great opportunity for friends groups and residents to help realise their visions for their local parks. The ongoing dog show at Cator Park is a great place to see this community spirit in action, and the facilities the Jubilee Parks Fund has provided will benefit our residents all year round.”

Millie Knights, Chairperson of Friends of Cator Park and Alexandra Recreation Ground says, “We are grateful to the council and the Jubilee Parks Fund for helping us install these great additions to our parks. We look forward to seeing the new equipment in action and seeing the benefit it will bring to all of our residents and visitors for years to come.”
