Over 1300 households have already received additional financial support as part of the latest Household Support Funding round, with applications from residents now being directly encouraged.

Families and households can apply for £200 of additional support, with applications from those who may be eligible being welcomed until the end of March 2024 or whilst funds last.

Applications to the Household Support Fund, which is funded by the Department of Work and Pensions, are being assessed on a first come first served basis, with partner organisations and voluntary groups also supporting residents to apply.

Councillor Yvonne Bear, Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing said, “The Household Support Fund initiative is designed to help a wide variety of residents who may be struggling financially, in different circumstances, with applications welcome from anyone who believes they are eligible. Support is available for those who need it, to help guide them through the application process and our thanks goes to partners and voluntary groups for their support with this as well.”

Residents who may have received support in earlier years who believe they are still eligible can apply for support in this latest phase. Residents who have already received support this year, since June 2023, when the council proactively contacted eligible residents, are being advised not to apply for additional funding now as they have already received support and therefore not eligible for further support at this time.

Application for support should be made via the council’s website with the flexible system allowing applications to be made by others, on behalf of someone else. Applications can therefore be made by a family member, friend or a professional, in support of the resident, with only one application per household still allowed.
