Bromley Council encourages residents to ensure themselves and their children have had their Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccine if they have not already done so.

Though Bromley has not had any confirmed cases to date and vaccination levels are relatively higher, parents are nevertheless being encouraged to make sure their children have been vaccinated and to stay up to date with childhood vaccinations, helping protect themselves and others from the risks of measles. This is in light of national concerns and reports of increases in cases of measles in areas across the country.

Dr Nada Lemic, Director of Public Health (Bromley Council) said, “MMR vaccines are the most effective way to protect our children and ourselves from serious illness and health complications from measles, and to lower the risk of an outbreak in our community. It is never too late to catch up, so please do not hesitate to get your children or yourself protected with an MMR vaccination if you haven’t already done so.

MMR vaccination is part of the routine childhood vaccinations and parents or carers are notified when their child become eligible for vaccines with a phone call, letter or text message. Parents should check their Red Book (Personal Child Health Record), or with their GP practice if they feel their child has missed a vaccination.

Parents or Guardians are being advised that if they are unsure their child has had their MMR vaccination, or need to arrange a vaccination appointment, to contact their GP practice.
