Improvements to shopping parades across the borough have been announced as the council continues its efforts to support the local economy.
Five projects on separate parades have been given the green light for a new round of the Local Parades Improvement Initiative, which builds on works delivered on over 30 parades across the borough in previous rounds.
Works totalling £50k will be proceeding at parades on Cotmandene Crescent in St Paul’s Cray, Chilham Way in Hayes, Walden Parade in Chislehurst, Anerley Road and Shortlands Village, which will see a range of improvements delivered, including new planters, benches, village signs and walkway enhancements in line with proposals from local businesses.
Councillor Yvonne Bear, Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing, said: “Local parades play an important role in our borough, helping to drive the local economy and provide convenient shops in our busy lives and spaces for residents to come together. I am glad we can provide this further targeted support to our parades, working with the local business communities to create that added boost where possible that can make all the difference locally.”
Plans for these works are now being developed, with further details to be shared locally in due course. Applications were received from businesses and business groups through their local councillors, with priority given to parades who had not received funding in previous rounds. Any remaining funds following the selected projects will be allocated amongst the wider applications received.
Over £250k has been invested across the borough over previously rounds of the Local Parades Improvement Initiative.
