Southborough Library will reopen to the public on Friday 16 August following completion of the recent refurbishment.

The second library refurbishment to be recently completed in the borough, Southborough Library is marking its reopening by inviting residents to a celebration event to be held on 16 August 2024.

Taking place between 10:30am and 12:30pm, the library will be officially reopened with a ribbon cutting ceremony by the Mayor of Bromley, Councillor David Jefferys.

As well as complimentary refreshments, event attendees will be able to enjoy children’s crafts, outdoor games and admire Bromley Football Club’s winner’s trophy on display following their recent promotion to the English Football league. Children’s author Mo O’Hara will also host a storytelling session with activities based on her book, Honey's Hive.

Councillor Yvonne Bear, Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing said: “Our library service is going from strength to strength and the reopening of Southborough Library is another step towards our vision of high quality library facilities across the borough being secured for the future. We know what an important role libraries play in the borough offering services and facilities that benefit the whole community. There’s something for everyone at our libraries and these improvement works will make them even more accessible and enjoyable places to visit.”

The library upgrade has improved the overall accessibility and sustainability of the library building. Inside there is a new accessible public toilet with baby changing facilities and improved lighting, windows and heating systems.

Over £11m has been allocated to modernise libraries across the borough through repair works and replacement of fixtures and fittings that have reached the end of their useful life. This is in addition to the major regeneration of West Wickham Library, which is already underway, and plans to relocate and improve Central Library.

St Paul’s Cray was the first library to be refurbished. For more information on the repair programme visit www.bromley.gov.uk/LibraryRepairProgramme.
