Residents are invited to find out about plans for new housing, with engagement events being held for the proposed redevelopment of the Bellegrove site in St Paul’s Cray.
Plans will see 68 new homes created as part of the council’s ongoing Bromley homes for Bromley people programme, providing much-needed affordable housing on the Bellegrove site, which sits opposite St Paul’s Cray Library.
Residents can share their views about the proposals at engagement events being held in St Paul’s Cray Library, which are taking place from Monday 9 to Saturday 14 December during usual opening hours for the building, with members of the project team available to answer questions on Monday, Thursday and Saturday. Display boards will show the intended designs for the site, which include children’s play spaces, some cycle and car parking for residents, electric vehicle charging, and a corridor of green space running through the site leading to Hoblingwell Wood Recreation Ground.
Councillor Yvonne Bear, Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing said: “This is an important proposal to deliver much-needed affordable housing locally and I encourage interested local residents to come and see the proposed designs and share any feedback. We are facing substantial pressures in providing the housing we need to for homeless families, with the cost of temporary accommodation per household having almost doubled in the last two years and the quality of what is on offer is mixed. We are looking at every option to both reduce cost and improve the standard of accommodation available, with the delivery of affordable housing on sites across the borough being an important element of this.”
The proposed housing is for a mix of one, two and three bed homes, which will have red/brown brick facades in keeping with the local area. The current proposals would see the building stepped back, which reduces overshadowing, and would use a mansard roof design to make the best use of the space available. The current building which is no longer in use will be demolished as part of the plans to allow for the new housing to be constructed.
The £29m project is part of the council’s wider Bromley homes for Bromley people programme, with housing having already been delivered in Chislehurst, Anerley and off Burnt Ash Lane, with further schemes underway across the borough. A planning application is set to be submitted for the proposals in the new year which could allow for works to commence in 2026.
