Councillor Will Rowlands, Executive Councillor for Environment said, “We are nearing the end of our treemendous work to plant 5000 street trees. There is now an exciting opportunity for residents to come together with Friends of Parks groups too and support this latest tree planting initiative which will improve our greenspaces now and for future generations. Please come along with your friends or family, including children, where we will all learn something about the importance of this work and have fun too. I look forward to seeing you there and thank you in advance to everyone.”
Councillor Rowlands said, “It would be wonderful if local people want to support the planting event near them but equally interested residents are welcome and encouraged to come to all the planting events or just one, depending on what suits them.”
Whilst gardening equipment can be provided, tree planting volunteers can also bring their own equipment, such as a spade, along with gloves, wearing appropriate outdoor clothing, including footwear.
Volunteers, including Friends of Parks and Tree Friends, can also get involved after the tree planting event in the months to come to help ensure the trees establish, including with watering and the like.
