Ten purpose built apartments were craned onto the construction site next to Anerley Town Hall last week, as the council made significant progress towards the delivery of affordable housing.
This development, consisting of one- and two-bedroom homes, has been constructed off site, with modules delivered and lifted into place. The news follows strategic craning works which were also used at the Bushell Way and Burnt Ash Lane developments, where 25 homes were lifted onto each site, completion of all these schemes is anticipated by the end of this year.
Councillor Peter Morgan, Executive Councillor for Renewal Recreation and Housing said, "I am pleased to see further progress being made on our housing sites and I look forward to the completion of all three of these developments. These sites will deliver a historic boost to the borough’s affordable housing supply from our initial investment of over £10m towards providing Bromley homes for Bromley people.”
Councillor Morgan continued, “We are working hard to ensure that this accommodation is available to families who urgently need it. Increasing our housing supply also reduces our unsustainable reliance on maintaining families in expensive, nightly paid accommodation. The council is constantly looking for further development opportunities to continue to provide housing for our residents.”
Wayne Yeomans, Head of Sales & Marketing from M-AR, the council’s appointed contractor, said, "It is rewarding to have reached this milestone and see the purpose built units now in place on site. We would like to thank local residents and occupants of the town hall for their enduring patience during this project and we hope to continue our close co-operation as construction approaches its closing stages.”
Wayne continued, “We hope this development will demonstrate the added value that off-site methods of construction can provide. We have been able to efficiently deliver this housing to a small site, while limiting the number of personnel and on-site vehicles required throughout construction, which reduces local disruptions and allows for easy compliance with COVID-19 precautions. We are now focussed on completing this scheme as soon as possible to allow these homes to be occupied."
This part three-storey development of four one-bedroom and six two-bedroom apartments was designed by architects Rivington Studio and include provisions for cycle storage with seven off-street parking bays and electric car charging points.
In line with the housing strategy, the council is continuing to bring forward proposals for housing developments on council-owned sites across the borough. A planning application for a development of 35 homes at York Rise in Orpington has been submitted and if granted would allow the council to deliver additional housing for Bromley residents by the end of next year.
