Residents are encouraged to join the adventure with Bromley Scouts for Bromley’s 60th anniversary, with volunteers being sought at groups across the borough, so more young residents can get involved.
The special ‘60 for 60’ initiative, aims to get 60 new volunteers taking part this year in activities with Bromley Scouts, who are the largest Scout District in the UK. These new volunteers will mean even more of the young residents currently on the waiting lists will be able to take part in the valuable activities on offer and start learning key skills for life.
The Mayor recently met with Bromley Scouts and leaders to support their campaign and find out more about their activities, which was also shared with councillors at Bromley Civic Centre.
The Mayor of Bromley Councillor David Jefferys said: “I strongly encourage any who can spare some time to get involved with Bromley Scouts, who deliver such incredible opportunities for our young people across the borough. Given the huge number of passionate volunteers I regularly encounter, it was of no surprise that Bromley has the largest Scout District in the country. So, as we celebrate successes like these for our borough in our 60th anniversary year, I hope more residents will find opportunities like these to get involved locally and help our great borough to continue to thrive.”
Shelia Howard, Lead Volunteer for Bromley District Scouts said: “Thanks to the contributions of all our incredible volunteers, we are able to give over 3,000 young people exciting and rewarding opportunities each week. We are now looking for 60 passionate volunteers to join us for the 60 years of Bromley, which will mean that many of those currently on our waiting lists will be able to join the fun and start learning skills for life, which is what scouting is all about."
Volunteers are sought for any level of contribution, from occasional evenings lending a hand and sharing skills, to helping on adventures on camp. Volunteers are encouraged to get in touch with the Scouts today and after the necessary checks, could soon be helping support their local group. Those with skills, hobbies or an interesting job that could be shared are especially sought.
