The council’s Civic Centre headquarter building at Churchill Court has been officially opened today (14 April) by The Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London, Sir Kenneth Olisa OBE.

The visit by His Majesty’s personal representative marked the official start of the council’s tenure at its new Civic Centre, where residents are now being served from the heart of Bromley town centre. A plaque was unveiled during the ceremony to denote the historic occasion, in the presence of the Mayor of Bromley, Councillor Dr David Jefferys and the Leader of the Council, Councillor Colin Smith, along with a number of other councillors and former mayors and councillors.

The Mayor of Bromley, Councillor Dr David Jefferys said: “This is a very significant moment in the borough’s history, as our new Civic Centre is officially opened, in Bromley’s sixtieth year. We are grateful to Sir Kenneth Olisa OBE for officially opening the Civic Centre. The centre will ensure that the council will continue to serve residents now and for future generations.”

The opening of the new Civic Centre, located opposite Bromley South train station and the Police station, follows confirmation of the council leaving the former Stockwell Close Civic Centre campus site, with council services continuing to be delivered as usual throughout the move.

Bromley’s new Civic Centre provides modern purpose-built office space to deliver council service, generating significant cost savings and rental income from the wider site, while allowing council partners to be located nearby, including in the upcoming Health and Wellbeing Centre, where works are currently underway. A new Council Chamber has also been created through refurbishment works, acting as a base for the borough’s democratic decision-making.
