A message from the Leader of the Council
Dear Resident,
I want to share some welcome news at this time following the recent publication of statistics concerning both Bromley’s recycling and road safety records.
Thanks to you, our residents, Bromley is now recycling over half of its waste, an excellent achievement which leaves us proudly remaining London’s leading recycling borough for the third successive year whilst saving our taxpayers serious amounts of money at the same time.
Likewise, on our roads, information just published on our website shows that there has been a very welcome reduction of 48 per cent in the numbers of those seriously or fatally injured compared with the average from 2005 to 2009.
This is another area where Bromley is also leading London, with the 48 per cent reduction being the largest drop in London. You can read the full detail by visiting our website www.bromley.gov.uk/roadsafetystatistics.
Whilst we will not always be the top performer in London year on year, statistics show that these latest results are part of long-term trends.
You may have missed it, but this news also follows confirmation in January that Bromley’s Youth Justice team received the highest category overall rating following an inspection by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation as well.
All of this despite the well-publicised and extremely unfair funding settlement which Bromley Council continues to suffer from Central Governments past and present and that particular ongoing battle will continue!
The financial challenges ahead, driven primarily by soaring demand for Housing, Children with Special Needs and Adult Care remain immense, making the quest for enhanced service performance ever more difficult but we remain focused and determined to deliver on the difficult job in hand.
Thank you for your understanding and support through all of this.
Whether it’s helping to plant trees, looking out for vulnerable neighbours and helping to combat loneliness, being a ‘Street’, ‘Park’ or ‘Snow’ Friend and much, much more, the voluntary ethos across Bromley remains absolutely incredible and the envy of so many elsewhere. An absolute credit to every single one of you involved.
Thank you once again for everything you do.
Happy Easter.
Kind regards and best wishes,
Councillor Colin P. Smith
Leader of Bromley Council
