Congratulations to Her Majesty!
Bromley joined the nation in congratulating Her Majesty The Queen for her 70 years of outstanding service during the special Platinum Jubilee bank holiday from 2 June to 5 June. Details about these celebrations are detailed below.

Plant a tree for the Jubilee
The council is supporting the Queen’s Green Canopy tree planting campaign, in recognition of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.
Over 1,500 new street trees are being planted by the council in support of the Queen’s Green Canopy and also as part of our Treemendous tree planting initiative. Some of these new trees are plotted on the Queen’s Green Canopy map.
Residents, scouts and other community organisations can still take part in the celebration by plotting any trees planted this year on the Queen’s Green Canopy map including photos of the tree being planted, if possible.

Street parties
A record breaking 305 street parties were held across Bromley over the Jubilee bank holiday, as the Mayor and Deputy Mayor met celebrating residents at over 100 of the parties.
Beacon lighting in Crystal Palace Park
Bromley joined over 2,000 beacons being lit across the nation and beyond for the Platinum Jubilee in a beacon lighting ceremony at Crystal Palace Park, for which almost 7,000 tickets were allocated.
Bromley Town Centre celebrations
A two-day outdoor concert and summer film screenings took place in Queens Gardens, Bromley over the commemorative bank holiday weekend.
A host of fabulous local talents were showcased at the concerts sponsored by the Glades, including Matthew English, Magpie Dance, Bromley Vocal School, Skylark School of Dance, Spotlights Theatre, Everyone Matters, West Wickham Operatic Society, Rock Choir, Andreas Nicolaou Music School, Michelle Sidwell Academy of Dance, and ArtsTrain and more.
A series of al fresco film screenings were also held in partnership with Your Bromley, showing a variety of royal themed films.
Best decorated shop and street decoration grant
To help prepare the borough for the Jubilee, the council delivered a £30,000 grant programme to support businesses and community groups in decorating Bromley’s shopping parades for the Jubilee celebrations.
Designer Drapes in Penge were also awarded the title of best decorated shop for the Platinum Jubilee by the Mayor, who visited on the bank holiday to award a certificate and £100 gift voucher generously donated by The Glades.
Cultural events and family activities
Over 70 Jubilee themed events were held in libraries across the borough for the Platinum Jubilee, such as puppet shows, bake offs, craft events, history exhibitions, and author events.
Entries for the #EveryoneaRoyal art challenge, where all children in Bromley were invited to design a portrait of themselves as a Royal, are being displayed in The Glades shopping Centre in June and July.
Other local celebrations
A number of community and business groups held exciting events and activities across the borough to join in with the festivities.
This included Your Bromley who held a street party along East Street and a live local talent competition in Market Square, judged by a panel including X Factor winner Matt Terry.
Orpington 1st also ran full programme of entertainment to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in Market Square, kicking off with a live screening of the Trooping of the Colour and concluding with the lighting of Orpington town centre’s official Jubilee Beacon and fireworks.
