For every tree removed, we aim to plant another one making sure it is the appropriate species, has a supporting stake, protective cage and watering bag. Generally, trees are only removed if there is a risk to public safety, damage to property or for good arboriculture reasons. The tree planting season is from November to April.
What is an empty tree pit and why is it there?
An empty tree pit is a space where a previous tree was planted, and the tree may have died or been cut down. Reasons why a Tree Pit may be empty can include but are not limited to:
- Underground services no longer allow trees to be planted.
- Crews cannot remove the tarmac cap.
- Tree pits have been permanently closed.
- Tree pits are on the LBB list for next planting season (November to April).
- Overhead power lines and/or other trees at height.
Request empty tree pits to be capped
The London Borough of Bromley aims to replace all trees with the first 3 years of removing a tree, providing the location remains viable. To bring empty tree pits to the council’s attention please use fix my street.
Request a new public tree to be planted
If you are aware of an empty tree pit somewhere in the borough, you can request a new tree to be planted by reporting a problem in Bromley’s streets or parks. Select the location where you want to nominate a new tree, and leave your contact details.
We are committed to replacing trees and growing our tree stock, so we welcome any help in identifying potential planting sites.
Request a new sponsored tree to be planted
Trees are often planted in memory of a loved one and we will offer you a selection of tree species in the park, street, or graveyard of your choice, provide location options and detailed costs.
To make a request, go to our sponsored tree form.
Please specify the location you have chosen, your three favoured dates for planting, and species of tree you would prefer. We will look at our planting schedule, provide a breakdown of cost, and consult you with any suggestions we have.
The tree planting season is from November to April and if you wish to request a tree planted for current season, please contact us before the end of July.

Any residents who are willing to help water, weed and mulch around the base of trees in addition to LBB regular maintenance are welcome.
