Project completion update – March 2026

Works to replace the Kelsey Park footbridge are now fully complete, and the new bridge was formally opened by the Mayor on Thursday 26 March 2026.

Kelsey Park new footbridge over a stream with pedestrians.

The replacement bridge was fabricated off site, allowing the majority of construction activity to take place away from the park. This approach helped to reduce the duration of onsite works and limit disruption to park users. Once fabrication was complete, the bridge was carefully transported to Kelsey Park and installed on the existing abutments, following earlier design and survey work to confirm these could be safely reused.

The bridge is now open for public use, restoring an important pedestrian route through the park. Access through Wickham Way has been fully reinstated, and the site has now been made good, with all temporary works areas removed and surrounding paths, landscaping and grassed areas reinstated.

The total cost to deliver the replacement footbridge project was £567,000, covering detailed design, surveys, off site fabrication, delivery and installation of the bridge, associated enabling works.

The council would like to thank Land and Water for their successful completion of the works, local residents and park users for their patience during the construction period, and the Friends of Kelsey Park for their continued support and engagement throughout the process.
